Dynamic, challenging and philosophical are three words that best describe the ING change session this past week. During the session, Chiel Vink and Simon van der Veer ‘entertained’ HR professionals by confronting them with the question « How do you spend your time? ». Simon kicked off the session with an interactive game, which triggered participants from the very start to critically examine their own work through High Performance Organizaiton (HPO) glasses. Chiel then talked about the results of the HPO study. With so many years of banking experience in the room, lively discussions arose among the ING managers.
Finally, participants were challenged to enter into ‘reverse dialog’ with one another on the question: « How do you spend your time and what is the desired (or undesired) result? » Some of the interesting thoughts expressed included getting ‘out of the inbox’ and having more genuine face-to-face contact, doing away with minutes (but keeping action lists), switching from ‘rules to frameworks’ and critically examining project organizations (Are all those steering committees, sounding boards and supervisory groups really necessary?).
All in all, it was a fascinating session that inspired participants to look through the glasses of a High Performance Organization to determine what is really worth their time!
« The meeting was inspiring and interactive. And the theme was well chosen and greatly appreciated by many of the participants. »
